Youth Mental Health First Aid

This professional learning opportunity will provide content, material, and strategies to assist educations in meeting the needs of students in their district.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent who are experiencing a mental health or addiction challenge or is in crisis.

 


Important Session Information:


Region 10’s Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, and school staff how to help an adolescent who is experiencing a mental health/addiction challenge or crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders. This course is provided by educators for educators.  Educators will receive 11 CPE hours.

This class is being offered in a blended model.  No registrations will be allowed after the deadline.

  1. The registrant will receive an email from Youth Mental Health First Aid notifying them that the virtual class is ready to be taken.
  2. The virtual class will take 1.5-2.5 hours keeping the place of the participant as they start and stop the course.
  3. No participants will be allowed to take the in-person portion unless they have first completed the virtual class.

CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE ONLY: Individuals must complete post-session coursework from NTBHA to be fully certified in YMHFA.
