Most school library collections are fiction focused, and yet research shows that as many as 75 percent of young readers enjoy nonfiction as much as or more than fiction. These info-loving kids are significantly more likely to thrive as readers if they have access to a rich, diverse array of nonfiction. Join award-winning author-educator Melissa Stewart for a half-day virtual learning experience that breaks down the 5 Kinds of Nonfiction children’s books available today, offers tips for collection development, and shares a broad range of innovative teaching strategies and activities for creating and supporting passionate nonfiction readers. This session will not be recorded.
Books that are suggested (but NOT mandatory) for participation: 5 Kinds of Nonfiction and Summertime Sleepers: Animals that Estivate (winner of the American Library Association's 2022 Sibert Honor Award for Nonfiction). Both titles are available from Perma-Bound.
