Spicing-up Your Seven SUPER Centers with Thematic Learning for Early Childhood Special Education Classrooms

High-quality Early Childhood Special Education classrooms provide students with opportunities for exploration and discovery through the use of hands-on experiences in learning centers. The Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines suggests that the following seven super centers are most effective for little learners: ABC, Creativity, Construction, Library and Listening, Math and Science, Pretend and Learn, and Writing. Activities within the seven super centers should be planned, purposeful, and playful in order to ensure they target skills students need to be successful and builds on the student’s current level of understanding. During this make and take session, participants will create thematic fall activities that can be immediately taken and implemented into an Early Childhood Special Education or Prekindergarten classroom. Participants will collaborate to align these activities to the Prekindergarten guidelines and use the Early Childhood Outcomes Document to scaffold activities for all learners.
