This workshop is designed for educators who are already providing TEKS-aligned instruction for student performance AND for those who are recently transitioning to this practice. Often overlooked, the seven descriptors for language performance provide a roadmap for what student language output and understanding should look like. Most educators receive scant or surface-level education on these very important parameters which help World Language teachers fully understand the framework of the TEKS and how to plan for instruction so that students perform language at the appropriate level (NM-AL). Before the workshop, teachers will complete a pre-assessment to gauge their level of knowledge and implementation regarding how to correctly use the TEKS and the language domains for language planning and assessment. On the day of the workshop, teachers will work in groups based on ability to: 1) define the language domains and how they correlate to the TEKS, 2) articulate how to use the domains and the TEKS when planning with backward design, 3) evaluate student samples to identify aspects of language performance according to the domains, and 4) evaluate examples of how teachers successfully or don’t successfully use the domains correctly when planning for instruction and assessing student language performance.
