A “workshop” allows a group of people to share knowledge and experiences while pursuing common work. Utilizing "workshop" strategies in 6-12 ELAR classrooms increases opportunities for students to become engaged readers and writers with the ability to transfer skills across genres. In this session, participants will experience and explore the use of powerful mentor texts and targeted mini-lessons. Mini-lessons are brief, explicit instruction on one targeted concept or skill, and a mini-lesson serves as a link between prior experience and a student's ability to apply knowledge and skills independently. When mini-lessons are designed with complex texts as mentors, students will see the reading and writing relationship bridged by the author's craft.
This session is being hosted by Frisco ISD. Frisco ISD teachers need to register through Frisco ISD. All other participants will register here.
