Breaking the Code: Helping Beginning Readers Succeed
Grades K-2

This Teaching & Learning professional learning opportunity will provide content, material, and strategies to assist educators in meeting the needs of students in their district.

Important Session Information:

It’s important to provide students in primary grades ample time to explore sounds even before exposing them to print!  Phonological awareness is a continuum of skills, including phonemic awareness, the understanding that words are made up of sounds. Once children learn that words are made up of sounds, we introduce them to the alphabetic principle and Phonics instruction.  This session will provide teachers with strategies and activities for teaching these foundational reading skills. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the role these skills play in reading development. Please bring technology.

There are two price tiers for this event:

  1. Members of the Region 10 Instructional Practices Package receive free registration.
  2. R10 teachers and Out of Region teachers who are not members of the Region 10 Instructional Practices Package pay $100.00.
