The goal of World Language education is to help students become proficient in another language. How we assess students lets us know if we are meeting that goal. In this workshop, participants will unpack the LOTE TEKS (standards for learning) in order to identify the desired outcomes for the course and acceptable evidence of language performance. Next, participants will examine aligned World Language assessments and practice rating student language samples to determine 1) if the assessment measures the desired results for performance and 2) if student language output on the assessment shows acceptable evidence of meeting the performance target. This workshop is ideal for teachers who are new to world language teaching and/or veteran teachers who are still making the shift to performance-based assessments. While not required, it is highly recommended that teachers attend a follow up workshop on the following day, World Languages: Leveraging Data to Enhance Language Acquisition.
