How do we teach our students to put their thoughts on paper? Before they even make a mark on the page, we can help them learn to think as a writer. How? By highlighting and discussing the intentional decisions authors make, we are inviting our students to enjoy a front row seat into the thought process of a writer. Engaging in a variety of mentor texts such as short videos, paintings and photographs, opens the minds of young writers to the possibilities awaiting them. In this session participants will explore a variety of mentor texts in which teachers can expertly guide students to think as writers.
This a self-paced course that begins on June 7, 2021 and ends on June 18, 2021. To participate in this course and earn credit, you must be registered through Region 10 ESC. Registration begins on April 22, 2021 and ends on June 15, 2021. After registering, participants will receive an email registration confirmation with a link to the Google site that houses all of the course materials. A Region 10 consultant will review all submitted work. Professional development certificates will be available after June 18th. Certificates will be issued through participant’s Region 10 user account.

- Members of the Region 10 Instructional Practices Package receive free registration.
- R10 teachers and Out of Region teachers who are not members of the Region 10 Instructional Practices Package pay $100.00.
