29 Pieces Education: Artists Making a Kinder World
RESPECT Lesson: Spreading a Message of Respect and Compassion

29 Pieces is a Dallas based organization which uses art to awaken, uplift and give voice to the creative human spirit. This workshop is open to all educators. Lessons demonstrated have been successfully completed in Art, Social Studies, Creating Writing, History, and Advisory classes.

Important Session Information:

**Please note, this learning experience is a virtual event and will not be hosted at a physical site.**

Karen Blessen, Founder and Director of 29 Pieces leads the RESPECT: Spreading a Message of Respect and Compassion Lesson. What if RESPECT could be spread from one person to another – just like a VIRUS? We can choose to be a VIRUS for good in our lives, and influence others positively.  We discuss the words: VIRUS, RESPECT, COMPASSION, and INFLUENCE. We address questions such as: Who or what has influenced you lately? Have you seen an advertisement that strongly affected you? Who or what needs our respect? Students read and reflect upon the passage Let Me Walk in Beauty and discuss how this Native American passage describes the concept of RESPECT. Students make a poster that will “go viral” and be a visible message of RESPECT, intended to spread through the school and community.
