**Please note, this learning experience is a virtual event and will not be hosted at a physical site.**
This book study will focus on strategies to implement the workshop model in 6-12 ELAR classrooms so that students become engaged readers and writers with the ability to transfer skills across genres. So that participants of this course have "voice and choice," each participant will select one of three books: A Novel Approach: Whole-Class Novels, Student-Centered Teaching, and Choice (Kate Roberts); 180 Days: Two Teachers and the Quest to Engage and Empower Adolescents (Kelly Gallagher & Penny Kittle); or Workshopping the Canon (Mary E. Styslinger). Participants are resposible for obtaining a copy of the book they select to read.
This a self-paced course that will be open from May 26, 2020 to July 27, 2020. Participants are encouraged to register by July 17 so that they have time to independently read the book and complete required course activities. After registering, participants will receive an email with a link to the Google site that houses all course instructions and activities.
Once participants have read the book and completed all course activities, a Region 10 consultant will review the submitted work. Professional development certificates will not be available until after the course closes. Participants submitting all completed work by July 20 will receive an email as soon as work has been reviewed, and their certificates will be issued to their Region 10 accounts on July 27 when the course closes. Participants submitting work between July 20 and July 27 can anticipate their certificate by August 3, 2020.
