Literacy & Learning Centers: Content Area and Disciplinary Literacy Tools for Grades 4-12
Katherine McKnight will present

Description: Elementary schools have long used learning centers (also known as “rotations” or “stations”). However, middle and high school teachers have unique challenges. Dr. Katherine McKnight works with teachers all over the United States to develop collaborative learning centers designed specifically for older learners (grades 4-12). In this hands-on professional development session, based on Dr. McKnight’s books, Literacy & Learning Centers for the Big Kids: Building Literacy Skills and Content Knowledge for Grades 4-12, Second Edition and Literacy & Learning Centers: Content Area and Disciplinary Literacy Tools for Grades 4-12 (Volume I), participants will:

• learn about the basics of implementing Literacy & Learning Centers
• address the challenges of implementation
• learn differentiated instructional strategies for meeting the needs of diverse readers
and writers
• explore classroom examples and models
• incorporate technology-based tools
• gain familiarity with adaptable center strategies for any content- area classroom
• discover effective methods for assessment through the Literacy and Learning Centers
• be provided free resources for implementation for unique learners in all content areas.

"Becoming adept at utilizing Literacy & Learning Centers in your classroom will return the joy, raise test scores, and most importantly, increase student engagement. Dr. McKnight has created a road map for Literacy & Learning Centers that is simple to follow but rich in results!" Julie Mitchell, Reading Specialist.
