Flooded with threat messages and stress, our bodies lose cognitive energy and mental flexibility for tasks like reading. While some readers report reading more than ever during the pandemic, many readers are reading less and finding less enjoyment from their reading lives. Due to the changes in learning configurations and the implementation of safety guidelines, schools have necessarily limited or reduced some traditional resources and literacy activities that engage young readers. In this session, explore instructional strategies, resources, and book recommendations that support joyful reading—during the pandemic and beyond.
