This workshop is free to all Region 10 schools.
This course will provide potential interpreters and special education professionals with information, tools and strategies needed for conducting legal and effective meetings, as well as service delivery, in languages other than English. Special education professionals and interpreters are encouraged to attend the morning session together.
The session will be in 2 parts: Part I--AM session-- (for both interpreters and sped professionals)--Legal and practical aspects of interpreting (or being interpreted for!) in special education settings. Part II--PM session-- (for interpreters) --specific tools and strategies for interpreting in assessments and ARD meetings.
Objectives:
Part 1: (3 hours) For Special Education Professionals (SLPs/Diags/LSSPs/Teachers) and Interpreters
- Participants will identify necessary actions for IDEA compliance when utilizing an interpreter in provision of special education services (meetings and assessment sessions).
- Participants will describe the most appropriate models of interpreting to be used in ARD/IEP meetings and conferences
