SB 1566 requires that all school board members be trained in Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes (EISO).  This workshop will provide a look at how progress monitoring, accountability, and implementation, on the part of a school board, make a difference in student outcomes.  This will be a three-hour training that is required of school board members. 

New trustees must complete the training within 120 days of their election or appointment to the board.

Existing trustees must complete training in EISO every two years.  A Board of Trustees may receive credit for Team of Eight and EISO training if all seven board members and the superintendent of an ISD attend and participate in the training together.

NOTE: Targeted for Executive Secretary that work with School Boards

The audience for these sessions is executive secretaries who have responsibilities related to school board communication, agenda development, recording minutes of meetings, school board elections, recording trustee training, and more.  Hear from attorneys on these topics and have discussions with peers about best practices.  Also, stay for lunch and join board members and superintendents to hear about district collaborative visioning.

NOTE: Targeted for newly elected board members

This session is provided to help newly elected trustees to meet one of the training requirements they are expected to accomplish within the first 120 days in office.  Participants will become familiar with laws and policies affecting the governance of independent school districts, including basic school board operations as well as trustee roles, and responsibilities.

NOTE: Targeted for existing board members

Participants will hear from an experienced trustee about understanding the balance between a board member’s role in governance as related to school administrators’ role in management of the district.

NOTE: Targeted for Board Presidents and Superintendents

Presidents and superintendents have a unique relationship in the operations of the ISD Board of Trustees.  Hear for a past school board president about that working relationship and how it can propel successful and effective board governance.
