The most common ways for readers to respond to a text are through oral responses, drawing, or written responses. In the reading academy content, we talked about reader response methods, such as using graphic organizers, sketch journals, annotations, and text evidence. In this session, we continue the discussion on reader response with a focus on writing. Reader response may occur before, during, or after students are engaged with reading. In addition, students can respond to a text read aloud, to a text they read during small group instruction, or to a book they read independently. This is an early elementary session that is offered as a part of the Instructional Practices (reading academy connections) sessions at Region 10. Participants will get the opportunity to see what responses to reading can look like in K-2.
