Beyond Beauty, Portraits and Critical Thinking in the Classroom

This Teaching & Learning professional learning opportunity will provide content, material, and strategies to assist educators in meeting the needs of students in their district.

Important Session Information:

In this workshop, educators will view select portraits from Spanish artist Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida (1863-1923) and another portrait by Jusepe de Ribera.  During the gallery walks, the facilitators, Laura Mancini of the Meadows Museum and Meredith Clark of Region 10, will model how to provide opportunities for students to use different types of thinking (T-TESS 2.2) by asking creative and analytical questions that elaborate and extend learning (T-TESS 2.3).  The learning experience consists of a welcome + context, gallery discussions with analysis, lunch on your own, and collaborative lesson planning and sharing in the afternoon.
