The Education Service Center provides this training following each school board election to familiarize new school board members with the laws affecting the governance of independent school districts as well as understanding the roles and responsibilities of school board members.

Declining Enrollment: Preparing for the Challenges Superintendents from three districts experiencing declining enrollment will share the districts' story and share some challenges the district has experienced and how they were addressed.  Participants will be able to engage with the panel and ask questions about the effects of declining enrollment on a district.

Danny Stockton, North Texas Education Coalition (Provider Number: 2026-4-28-72939)

This session will provide a look ahead at the upcoming 90th Legislative Session, reviewing interim charges, discussing likely state leadership priorities, and reviewing possible impacts for public education moving forward.

SB 1566 requires that all school board members be trained in Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes (EISO).  This workshop will provide a look at how progress monitoring, accountability, and implementation, on the part of a school board, make a difference in student outcomes.  This will be a three-hour training that is required to meet the new Level IV mandated training for school board members.

Board Communication is key to a successful school district, and yet, is often given little attention. This session is designed to help you better understand your personal communication style, as well as those of your colleagues. Understanding communication style is one easy (and fun) way to improve effective communication between Board Members and Superintendents.

Providing safe and educationally appropriate facilities for students is an ongoing effort of school boards and administrators.  Listen to district leaders share their stories about the difficulty of passing bond elections in their districts and what changed allowing the passage of a bond election. These districts made several unseccussful attempts to pass bonds to make facility upgrades and additions, but are now constructing facilities to meet their current and future needs.

Join district leaders as they discuss the plans they have to meet learners and families where they are as they provide alternatives to traditional public school enrollment.  Learn what is available that your district may want to explore to remain competitive in the new climate of education options.

This session will discuss the uprising history of AI, keys to recognizing AI driven communication, and best practices for responding (or not responding) to the ever-increasing flood of AI assisted advocacy.

Using TASB’s Board Operating Procedure Development Tool, this session walks trustees through the essential components of a governance operating framework from agenda setting and decision-making protocols to ethics, communication norms, and the board–superintendent relationship. Participants will leave with a clear understanding of why operating procedures matter, what should be included, and how to begin shaping procedures that reflect their district’s values while aligning with Texas law and the SBOE/TEA Framework for School Board Development.

Dallas County Children Advocacy Center & Mark Keahey

As a result of the passing of HB 403, school board members are now required to receive one hour of training every two years on identifying and reporting Sexual Abuse, Human Trafficking, and Other Maltreatment of Children.  In this training, board member will gain information about best practices for identifying, legal requirements for reporting, and resources for assisting victims.
