Early Childhood
Writing in Pre-K

High-quality Early Childhood classrooms are intentionally designed to be hands-on and engaging with robust learning experiences in planned, purposeful and playful activities.

This session will provide strategies to support Early Childhood Educators in creating dynamic experiences for our youngest learners. Participants will collaborate and curate meaningful activities which are intrinsically aligned with the Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines

Important Session Information:

There is usually a misconception that three and four year olds should come to school able to write and draw. This is not usually the case. Some children are not developmentally ready to write with pencils until their fine motor control has been strengthened. In this session, the participants will use the Pre-K Guidelines to learn the developmentally appropriate writing progression, how to incorporate fine motor activities into your daily instruction and centers along with developing planned, purposeful and hands-on playful writing activities for our young learners. Educators will also discuss instructional strategies that promote the development of writing skills in Pre-K students.
