Designing and delivering specially designed instruction (SDI) can feel complex, especially within grade-level curriculum. In this session, educators will explore how to plan and implement SDI within HQIM lessons while maintaining access to grade-level TEKS. Participants will examine how to identify student needs and use supports already embedded in HQIM materials to provide more intentional, targeted instruction.
Through guided examples and structured practice in both math and reading contexts, teachers will learn how to make thinking visible through explicit instruction, use representations strategically, and scaffold student reasoning through purposeful questioning. Participants will apply these strategies to plan instruction for a sample student and leave with a clear, practical process for designing specially designed instruction that supports student access, engagement, and understanding.
