the Case for complexity: Strategies for Struggling Readers

With an emphasis on research-based instructional practices and the Science of Reading, many teachers understand the importance of exposing students to complex texts to foster their growth as readers, thinkers, and learners. However, implementing this in classrooms with students who are several grade levels behind, lack background knowledge and vocabulary, or struggle with foundational reading skills presents significant challenges. This session moves beyond theory, into equipping educators with actionable strategies to help struggling readers confidently and enthusiastically engage with rigorous texts.
