Participants will explore ideas that contribute to an increased understanding of academic rigor.
Academic success increases when students are equipped to think, and much academic thinking aligns to fundamental cognitive actions that occur across academic disciplines. The “cognitive commands” on many assignments and tests, such as analyze, describe, and evaluate, can be explicitly taught and strengthened through intentional teacher planning and student practice. Participants in this 1-hour Zoom session will increase their understanding of cognitive demands and break down processes for a variety of demanding cognitive actions.
