**Please note, this learning experience is a virtual event and will not be hosted at a physical site.**
Students often include evidence in their writing but struggle to clearly explain how that evidence supports their claim. Instead, they repeat their thesis or summarize the text, leaving the reasoning behind their ideas unclear. In this session, educators will learn practical strategies for teaching the missing step in evidence-based writing: explanation. Participants will explore instructional moves that help students move from simply quoting text to analyzing what the evidence reveals. Teachers will learn how to model the thinking behind strong explanations, use questioning techniques that prompt deeper reasoning, and introduce simple sentence frames that guide students in connecting evidence to their claims.
