The best way to improve students' college readiness is through classroom instruction, and this session will focus on practical tools and strategies to elevate the depth of knowledge students experience. The way a teacher executes a lesson will ultimately determine the cognitive rigor. Pulling from research and resources by Dr. Karin Hess, participants will explore strategies to ask probing questions, build schemas, scaffold learning, design tasks the emphasize transfer, and engage students in metacognition and reflection. Additionally, participants will explore how to shift depth of knowledge levels in order to shift teacher-student roles in support of learning transfer.
