Social Studies (6-12)
Teaching American History Workshop - Missouri, Dred Scott and the Coming of the Civil War

This Social Studies professional learning opportunity will provide support with implementing the Social Studies TEKS, research-based instructional strategies focused on inquiry, historical thinking, future-ready learning, and access to quality resources targeted to provide support for all secondary courses (grades 6-12).

Important Session Information:

The Civil War was the result of decades of issues, ideas, and actions by individuals and groups, across a less than 100 year old America. In this seminar, teachers will explore the connection between emerging ideas about slavery and race, and a Supreme Court case that contributed to the causes of the Civil War.  Using discussion and primary documents, the scholar will facilitate the conversation instead of lecturing. Registrants are highly encouraged to read all the documents in advance and come ready with questions.
