A key component of skilled reading is language comprehension. When teaching foundational skills of word recognition, it is important to support language comprehension competencies through interactive read-alouds, shared readings and shared experiences. In this session, participants will explore a variety of routines that focus on developing background knowledge and vocabulary to build language comprehension in our young readers.
