Literacy across the content areas is essential if students are to succeed in the classroom and on the redesigned state assessments. Teachers, across the curriculum, face the challenge of helping students comprehend their subject area complex texts. This proves especially difficult if students lack the necessary literacy skills required in order to comprehend. This workshop will focus on the importance of writing and thinking across the curriculum. Teachers will explore research-based strategies that focus on ways for teachers to use writing in the classroom to develop student understanding and to prepare them for the writing demands of the real world.
