Teaching World Geography Through Picture Books




This Social Studies professional learning opportunity will provide support with implementing the Social Studies TEKS, research-based instructional strategies focused on inquiry, historical thinking and future-ready learning and access to quality resources targeted to provide support for all grade levels.


Important Session Information:


 

Why is it necessary to teach geography in the Social Studies classroom?  How do you use geography to create critical thinkers in your classroom?  Do your students lack knowledge of the world around them?  This session will address the need for teaching geography and spatial skills in all the Social Studies content courses to increase student understanding and critical thinking skills.  We will explore how to incorporate World Geography using picture books along with maps and additional primary and secondary sources.  Focus will be on standards-based, student-centered strategies to develop geography skills as well as critical thinking skills.
