The conversations that we have with young children develop their brains. Parent talk and conversations in early childhood settings dramatically shape a child’s brain and life-long learning, including vocabulary acquisition and school readiness. Use Dr. Dana Suskind’s insight as well as the research from Betty Hart and Todd Risley to understand the critical significance of early language experiences on developing brains. Participants will read the chapters at their own pace, answer reflective questions, create opportunities to use the three Ts (Tune In, Talk More, Take Turns) with young learners during remote and face-to-face learning and apply their learning to generate parent/caregiver language development support(s). During this self-paced course, participants will receive instructions to complete a six-hour, reflective and application learning module. To receive six hours of professional development credit, it is necessary to complete and submit the specified, electronic proof of self-paced learning.
NOTE: participants must purchase their own copy, or, download a digital or audio book of, “Thirty Million Words: Building A Child’s Brain” for this session.
