THIS IS Balanced Literacy Book Study (K-6)
Independent Exploration of Balanced Literacy




This book study will focus on how to intentionally design a balance of learning activities, purposeful instructional materials, evidence based teaching methods and strategic grouping of students based on data in order to truly balance literacy instruction. The instruction in this book is supported by classroom videos showing strategies in action.

Participants are responsible for obtaining a copy of the book. THIS IS Balanced Literacy by Douglas Fisher, Nancy Frey and Nancy Akhavan.

**Please note, this learning experience is a virtual event and will not be hosted at a physical site.**

This a self-paced course that will be open from January11, 2021 to April 12, 2021. After registering, participants will receive an email with a link to the Google site that houses all course instructions and activities.

Once participants have read the book and completed all course activities, a Region 10 consultant will review the submitted work. Professional development certificates will not be available until after the course closes. Participants submitting all completed work by April 12th will receive an email as soon as work has been reviewed, and their certificates will be issued to their Region 10 account.

This is an asynchronous course that will run throughout the spring semester. Participants will have four assignment deadlines: Feb.1, Feb. 22, Mar. 22, and April 12. A Region 10 consultant will review all submitted work. Professional development certificates will not be available until after the course closes. Participants submitting all completed work by April 12 will receive an email as soon as work has been reviewed, and their certificates will be issued to their Region 10 account by April 19.

There are two price tiers for this event:

  1. Members of the Region 10 Regional Cooperative Services receive free registration.
  2. R10 teachers and Out of Region teachers who are not members of the Region 10 Regional Cooperative Services pay $250.00.
