**Please note, this learning experience is a virtual event and will not be hosted at a physical site.**
Whether receiving instruction virtually or in person, students need increased opportunities to transfer and independently apply skills in the spring semester. In this session, participants will explore two student-centered approaches to reading that also provide integrated writing opportunities. Literacy circles and reading clubs provide a way for students to engage in critical thinking and reflection as they read and respond to texts. Students reshape and add onto their understanding as they construct meaning with other readers. Although literacy circles and reading clubs can be structured around novel selections, this session will focus on ways to use literacy circles and reading clubs with shorter texts for increased flexibility and cross-genre opportunities.
