School psychologists have knowledge of the history and foundations of school psychology; multiple service models and methods; ethical, legal, and professional standards; and other factors related to professional identity and effective practice as school psychologists. School psychologists provide services consistent with ethical, legal, and professional standards; engage in responsive ethical and professional decision-making; collaborate with other professionals; and apply professional work characteristics needed for effective practice as school psychologists, including effective interpersonal skills, responsibility, adaptability, initiative, dependability, technological competence, advocacy skills, respect for human diversity, and a commitment to social justice and equity.

Session Title: Legal Update and Ethics Review for LSSPs 

Maintaining an up-to-date understanding of the legal and ethical principles of our work is a cornerstone of the practice of school psychology. Doing so requires an intentional and frequent commitment to learning about the latest changes to these arenas.

In this session, participants will:

  • Review some of the latest updates to the law (state and federal law, judicial rulings) to understand the implications for the practice of school psychology.
  • Establish further understanding of the ethical principles of school psychology practice
  • Practice discussing and resolving various ethical dilemmas of school psychology.

The content of this session is designed to address the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP) professional development requirements outlined in 461.11(a).

PLEASE NOTE: Per Board Rule 461.11(b), the TSBEP board does not pre-approve content as meeting professional development requirements. Determinations about whether or not specific professional development meets board requirements is at the sole discretion of the Board.
