Important Session Information:

To create equitable and inclusive environments that foster belonging, we are required to dig deeper than surface level conversations about equity. The current pandemic has illuminated inequities in our systems. Beyond access to technology and wifi—what reflections and questions are you asking about the return to “normalcy”? What are you doing that has worked and what needs some refinement? How are you creating and sustaining environments that are antibias and antiracist?

Take a much needed and uncomfortable dive below the surface to talk about relationships, connections, power dynamics, and mental models will help us have an authentic and meaningful reflection about the current state of our equity efforts and where we go from here. During this time of crisis, we are reminded that we need more than awareness of inequitable systems—we need action if we value diversity and equity as much as we say we do.

Objectives:

• An overview of Educational Equity

• Identify barriers that exist in your context that perpetuate inequities

• Create a personal equity vision statement
