BOOKSTUDY: Visible Learning for Social Studies
SIX Week Self Paced




“How do Social Studies teachers maximize instruction to ensure students are prepared for an informed civic life:”  Join us as we explore the book, Visible Learning for Social Studies by Julie Stern, and learn how the field of Social Studies is more than simply a memorization of dates and facts, but rather the “skillful ability to conduct investigations, analyze sources, place events in historical context, and synthesize divergent points of view.”

Important Session Information:


**Please note, this learning experience is a virtual event and will not be hosted at a physical site.**

Course Materials/Requirements:

  • Participants will need a copy of the book - Visible Learning for Social Studies by John Hattie, Julie Stern, Douglas Fisher & Nancy Frey. 
  • Participants will also need access to the course website (this will be sent to you the day the course opens), Padlet, Flipgrid and Wakelet.
  • For each chapter of the book (there are five), participants will complete a reflection post on Padlet. 
  • Participants will complete a final reflection on the book on Flipgrid in addition to creating and submitting an example of visible learning on a Wakelet.
  • Completion of all reflections in Padlet and Flipgrid, submission of the final assignment on Wakelet and a Google Form are all required to earn the 6 hours CPE credit.

 

All coursework must be completed and submitted by October 6th and certificates will be awarded within two weeks of the course ending.
