This book study will focus on strategies to implement the workshop model in 6-12 ELAR classrooms so that students become engaged readers and writers with the ability to transfer skills across genres. So that participants of this course have "voice and choice," each participant will select one of three books: A Novel Approach: Whole-Class Novels, Student-Centered Teaching, and Choice (Kate Roberts); 180 Days: Two Teachers and the Quest to Engage and Empower Adolescents (Kelly Gallagher & Penny Kittle); or Workshopping the Canon (Mary E. Styslinger). Participants are resposible for obtaining a copy of the book they select to read.
After registering, participants will receive an email with a link to the Google site that houses all course instructions and activities.
This is an asynchronous course that will run throughout the fall semester. Participants will have four assignment deadlines: Oct. 5, Oct. 26, Nov. 16, and Dec. 7. A Region 10 consultant will review all submitted work. Professional development certificates will be available by Dec. 14, 2020.
