Helping in Hard Places: Trauma-Informed School Counseling

Counselor Initiative and Student Support (CISS) is a cooperative designed to provide high-quality services, resources and training.  CISS will serve as a vital school counselor resource with opportunities to network for discussions related to best practices, cutting edge research-based programs, and the latest updates from the Texas Education Agency regarding school counselor roles and responsibilities.

Important Session Information:

Trauma (or ACES as it is commonly called) causes great disruption to a student's life in terms of school success, graduation rates, long-term health, and more. This program provides participants with a plan for how to support children struggling with past or present trauma and guide them toward resiliency. The presentation will first educate counselors on the effects of trauma and how it damages life potential. Second, counselors will learn about trauma-informed practices and how to include them in their comprehensive school counseling program.
