SEL: Soothing our Stressed GT Students




Gifted individuals have added complexity in their thoughts and feelings that can lead to stress and anxiety. The pressure to excel, feelings of isolation, experiencing self-doubt, lacking appropriate intellectual challenges, and the need to prove their giftedness can all exacerbate their stress levels. In this session, we will discuss the warning signs of stress in our students, triggers for the pressures they are feeling, and how teachers can support and guide gifted students to cope with and manage their stress. This session will include a Zoom webinar and then asynchronous learning and activities to submit for credit.

Gifted individuals have added complexity in their thoughts and feelings that can lead to stress and anxiety. The pressure to excel, feelings of isolation, experiencing self-doubt, lacking appropriate intellectual challenges, and the need to prove their giftedness can all exacerbate their stress levels. In this session, we will discuss the warning signs of stress in our students, triggers for the pressures they are feeling, and how teachers can support and guide gifted students to cope with and manage their stress. This is a blended course, with a live webinar and asynchronous activities you will explore and complete on your own, to submit for credit.

To receive three hours of professional development credit, it is necessary to attend the live webinar and submit the specified, electronic proof of self-paced learning. Content will be shared via Padlet, where work and reflections will be submitted for credit. There is no partial credit for this course.

All coursework must be completed and submitted by June 26, 2020 and certificates will be posted on your Region 10 Transcript on July 3, 2020.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

All participants registered on the Region 10 website will receive login information prior to the webinar date.
