AM: Screening and Physical Examination for Signs and Symptoms- Part 2 PM Screening the Cardiopulmonary System, Vital Signs, and Introduction to the Integumentary System - Part 1
Overall Course Description: This course will enhance the skill level of therapists working in pediatrics in conducting selected portions of an examination including a) taking a history for the pediatric client, b) reviewing the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, gastrointestinal, integumentary and urogenital systems, c) reviewing general health and functional areas (communication, cognition, social-emotional, and feeding), and d) recognizing signs, symptoms and flags. Emphasis is on pediatric diagnoses managed by therapists and on differentiating conditions beyond the scope of practice of the therapist which should be referred to another practitioner in addition to or instead of receiving services from the therapist. The student is expected to bring knowledge of tests and measures and examination procedures unique to the discipline.
Thirty hours of continuing education in the area of differential diagnosis is one of the requirements for physical therapists to treat for ten days without a referral under the amended PT Rules (November 2019, §322.1. Provision of Services). This course is intended to provide six hours toward that requirement. Application will also be submitted for Texas PT CCUs. Occupational therapist are welcome to attend and course will meet the requirements for OT CCUs. Additional days will be scheduled as separate events. Please register for each day separately. Each day is a stand alone session.
