This Teaching & Learning professional learning opportunity will provide content, material, and strategies to assist educators in meeting the needs of students in their district.
This six-hour workshop will provide teachers with an understanding of NCTM’s eight effective mathematics teaching practices, how they can be implemented in the classroom, and what can be gained from making them a part of one’s daily teaching practice. As an overview of the eight practices, teachers will engage in a set of activities (e.g., exploring rich mathematical tasks, analyzing narrative and video cases of classroom instruction, analyzing student work samples) that will highlight the practices. The material discussed in this session will be drawn from NCTM’s Taking Action: Implementing Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices in Grades 6-8 and Grades 9-12.
