Commodity Training Class




Using your entitlement…the different options and what is best for your district. This class is mainly for Multi-Region Purchasing Cooperative members, but anyone is welcome. Topics addressed in this training include overview of the USDA Foods programs as they pertain to utilizing the upcoming school year’s entitlement. Overviews of each program and the best way to spend your entitlement, including comparisons of commodity foods versus commercially purchased foods. The training will also include a review on how to submit your FDP contract in TX-UNPS and how to use ProcessorLink, the software used for product selection for those participants planning to use some or all of their entitlement on processed USDA foods.
Outcome: Better understanding of the best approach for your district and how to set up your TX-UNPS FDP account based on your choices.


Important Session Information:


The Commodity Meeting” is recommend for any district that receives CN Federal Funds in the way of “Entitlement.” This 3-hour meeting will cover the following topics:

  • Best way for your district to spend your entitlement: how the 4 options work (Brown Box, DODFFV, Farm to School, and Processing)
  • Best “bang-for-your-buck” comparison of pricing between processing, commercial purchasing or brown box
  • Walk-thru of TX-UNPS: FDP Contract Packet
  • Review of DOD food programs: Fresh Fruit and Vegetables and Farm to School
  • Walk-thru of ProcessorLink: PreOrder Module
