Description: School-based clinicians across the nation are seeing an increasing number of students who exhibit symptoms of Selective Mutism. While most children who are diagnosed with Selective Mutism have underlying anxiety disorders, they also find communicating with peers and/or adults in the educational environment frightening and painful. The speech-language pathologist is often asked to consult on Selective Mutism cases as the school works to provide appropriate educational opportunities for academic success. This course will focus on practical ways that the speech-language pathologist can assist with Selective Mutism cases for optimal outcomes for these students.
