Really Great Reading: Emerging and the Struggling Reader
Shari Zimmer, Really Great Reading presenter
This professional development opportunity will provide teachers (general education and special education) a full day workshop to walk away with immediate strategies and learn the best practices in teaching subskills that build strong decoders. Participants will develop strategies that will ensure your emerging readers will establish firm foundations in the subskills that lead to strong decoding and fluent readers. Participants will learn how to teach phoneme play, letter-sound relationships, encoding, decoding, onset rime, rhyming, and sight word fluency. Participants will learn the most efficient methods for helping young students read developmentally appropriate unfamiliar and mutli-syllable words.
This session is for any teacher (general or special education) who works with Pre-K through 2nd grade struggling with beginning reading skills or works with a student who is identified with a specific learning disability in the general education classroom setting.
This class is free to all Region 10 schools.
