Therapist's Role in the Safe Transportation of Students with Special Needs
Speaker: Susan Shutrump OTR




  This session will explore the therapist’s role in ensuring proper seating, positioning and support of students with special needs on the school bus. Effective accommodations and modifications will be discussed which take into account the impact of common problems and medical issues on the entire transportation experience from bus stop to drop off during daily rides to supports needed during an emergency. Designing individualized transportation plans for students who use wheelchairs, those with sensory processing or behavioral concerns and those with non-obvious disabilities will be a focus.
