This Teaching & Learning professional learning opportunity will provide content, material, and strategies to assist educators in meeting the needs of students in their district.
Our Region 10 Science Consultants will help your first year 5th grade science teachers 1) Establish a student-centered, inquiry-based, excited-about-science laboratory culture, 2) Provide meaningful, hands-on labs for students using low-cost materials, 3) Have a cohort of other first-year teachers as well as Region 10 consultants for networking, brainstorming, collaboration, and support, 4) Quickly learn best practices in science education, 5) Manage their science classes to reduce the need for administrative intervention, and 6) Love teaching and stay in the profession! All teachers should be first year 5th grade science teachers (either completely fresh first year teachers, or teachers who have been assigned science for the first time) or teachers who are hesitant to do labs and hands on activities in their classrooms. Teachers will meet face-to-face six times for day-long professional development experiences. This cost will be $300 per teacher for the year-long Institute for Title 2 Co-op member district teachers and $600 for Non Co-op member district teachers. Please email PO to Bobette Mauck at bobette.mauck@region10.org
