This Teaching & Learning professional learning opportunity will provide content, material, and strategies to assist educators in meeting the needs of students in their district.
We’ve all heard about backward design, but what does that look like in the context of LOTE instruction? In this workshop, teachers will deeply explore the three stages of backward design, referencing research by Wiggins and McTighe. Participants will go on a treasure hunt through the standards to identify desirable results and determine acceptable evidence for language performance. Lastly, attendees will experience a model lesson planned backward from the TEKS and analyze how the entire process of backward design hinges on the success of planning a communicative task, not an activity or an exercise, to catapult students’ language acquisition. Much more than a sit and get, participants will actively explore, analyze, ask the hard questions and leave with their own lesson build on the solid foundation of backward design.
