Meaningful small group instruction and engaging center activities begin with intentional planning. Participants will examine the research behind purposeful instruction in letter knowledge, implement instructional strategies that promote the development of alphabet knowledge, plan activities to enhance participation in centers, and discuss/share ways to purposefully integrate alphabet knowledge and/or high-interest centers into other centers. Specific strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners, including struggling students, will be included. Best practices that promote kindergarten readiness will also be explored and discussed.
