This Teaching & Learning professional learning opportunity will provide content, material, and strategies to assist educators in meeting the needs of students in their district.
The recurring demographic shifts in our student population increase the numbers of students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (Aud et al., 2010) and English language learners. Though this shift is accompanied by richness of different cultures, it also adds another layer to the instructional complexity for ELLs. Research shows that a culturally responsive approach to instruction has a positive effect on ELLs. Using students’ personal experiences promotes authentic learning that is directly proportional to long-term learning. This full-day professional development session will examine the “how,” “what,” and “why” of culturally responsive teaching.
Please follow your district dress code policy when attending Region 10 professional development sessions. This professional development session is open to educators whose districts are members of the Title III BE/ESL Cooperative. Please confirm cooperative membership with your district before registering. If space permits, out-of-region teachers or teachers not currently employed may attend for a fee of $100.00 per day. Out-of-region registrants will be put on a wait list until two weeks prior to the event at which time a determination will be made regarding whether there is space for them to attend.
