Important Session Information:

Reading Fast or Reading Well? Let's put Fluency in Perspective - Jan Hasbrouck

Fluency is a key reading skill but is often misunderstood. Fluent reading is NOT fast reading! This session defines the skill of fluency and clarifies the link between fluency and comprehension. The role of fluency assessments and effective fluency instruction will also be discussed.

Equity of Access for English Learners - Jana Echevarria

As the population of English learners continues to grow, it is more critical than ever that these students are provided effective means for accessing the core curriculum, as well as accelerating their language development and literacy skills. In this interactive session, participants will discuss five conditions for creating an equitable education for English learners and will consider how each applies to their own school context.
