LSSP Ethics/Cultural Diversity
Ethics and Professional Issues for LSSPs 2018-19

In the morning session participants will hear from a current Board member of the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP) about the areas of the law from which the most numerous or difficult questions arise, along with other ‘hot button’ ethical issues for LSSPs.

Participants will learn about frequently asked questions regarding Board rules and what kind of acts or omissions lead to disciplinary action by the Board. The afternoon session will meet the cultural diversity requirement for LSSPs. Participants will examine how schools and school leaders are supporting the social and emotional development of its diverse populations of students.

Participants will examine social-emotional learning through a social justice perspective and give consideration to a key set of questions such as:

1)How are SEL needs and priorities identified?

2)Does SEL curricula align with the diverse needs of students?

3) Does school data (behavioral and other data) show discrepancies in how students are treated?

These and other questions will be used to guide a discussion on SEL programming, systemic issues, and how schools are establishing environments that promote SEL as an essential component of education.
