As per HB984, Unlicensed Diabetes Care Assistant (UDCA) must receive training to be able
to:
o Recognize the symptoms of hypoglycemia/hyperglycemia
o Understand the proper action to take if the blood glucose levels of a student with
diabetes are outside the target ranges, indicated by the student’s diabetes management
and treatment plan
o Understand the details of the student’s individualized health plan
o Perform finger-sticks to check blood glucose levels and record results
o Check urine ketone levels and record results
o Properly administer injections of glucagon or insulin and record the results of the
administration
o Recognize complications that require emergency assistance
o Understand the recommended schedules and food intake for meals/snacks for a
student with diabetes
o Understand the effects of physical activity on blood glucose levels
o Understand the proper actions to take if a student with diabetes schedule is disrupted
There are two price tiers for this event
1. Region 10 public local education agencies receive free registration if district has
purchased the Administrative Services Package.
2. Out of Region and/or Private/Non-Profit entities pay $150.00
