An Introduction to the Art of Translation
Community Interpreting: Dual Role




An Introduction to the Art of Translation will equip participants with a broader understanding of how to work as a professional translator. Participants will also learn appropriate skills to accurately facilitate the translation process. 

This training will focus on translation of written material from English into a target and target into source language.  This training will also provide an overview of how the translation industry is structured and segmented in the U.S. In addition to that, students will be equipped with an understanding of how to communicate with customers needing translation from the first encounter with a customer to the final delivery of a translation product. Finally, this training will give participants the opportunity to practice essential skills that are necessary for a successful translation work.

Description: This course will present the broader scope of the dual-role interpreter during the special
education interpreting encounter, and will cover the history of and legal precedence for
special education, as related to limited English proficiency. Participants will also be introduced
to techniques that will help them manage the flow of communication before, during, and after
the interpreting encounter. In addition, the training will provide specific terminology for those
functioning as dual-role interpreters during the ARD meeting and allow participants to obtain
practice interpreting.

There are two price tiers for this event
     
1. Region 10 public local education agencies receive free registration.
       
2. Out of Region and/or Private/Non-Profit entities pay $150.00.
